Saquon Barkley’s Move to Eagles Sends Shockwaves through NFC East, Snubs Giants & Cowboys

In order to avoid having to watch Saquon Barkley twice a year, the Washington Commanders were hoping he would go from the New York Giants.

The Commanders’ dream came true, but there’s a catch.

The Philadelphia Eagles are signing Barkley and keeping him in the NFC East, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

With a $26 million guarantee, the agreement is valued at $37.75 million over three years. He is able to make up to $46.75 million, nevertheless.

After spending six seasons in New York, Barkley—the Giants’ second-round selection in the 2018 NFL Draft—ran for more than 1,000 yards in three of those seasons. Barkley didn’t quite hit that amount last season, but he still managed to run for 962 yards and six touchdowns for the Giants.

Barkley will take D’Andre Swift’s spot in the backfield for Philadelphia after the latter inked a three-year deal with the Chicago Bears during the free agency period

After Tony Pollard signed a three-year contract to join the Tennessee Titans, the Cowboys will still be searching for his successor.

Barkley wasn’t part of Washington’s plans for free agency, but with Antonio Gibson joining the New England Patriots, the Commanders now need a running back.
